We Are Indigenous People! Not Illegals!
The greatest lie this country has ever made was that we are here illegally. Referring to North America as Turtle Island reinforces the view that North America was not land "discovered" by people of European descent, but as a land already inhabited and stewarded by millions of kind, diverse, and highly intellectual people.
Turtle Island is the English language translation of what many Native American tribes' called “the Americas.” This word uses both indigenous and colonizer terms by translating the Native name into the colonizer's language. We also called it Anahuak, which is a Nahuatl word that refers to “the land surrounded by water". Nahuatl is one of the largest language groups spoken by the Native peoples of North America.
